The Job Hunting Conspiracy
Hey, for those of you that follow this blog I am sorry about not being able to post for the past 2 days. On Friday I had a very hectic day, doing guess what... Job hunting -_-. Job Hunting is definitely something that I do not love to do. Let's first start with the process. You create your resume dressing it up making your qualifications and qualities about yourself look as provocative and persuasive as possible. Then you go from store to store whether it be at the mall, grocery stores, plaza's etc. handing out your resume like a flyer. I usually aim to hand out at least 5-12 resumes when I go job hunting. At the end of the day you hope and pray that at least one of them will call you back for at least an interview where you will further sell yourself and showcase your qualifications. Honesty saying all this was tiring so imagine doing it -_-. Another thing to keep in mind is that you are constantly in competitition with other people. Some people will have more experience and qualificaitons than you making them a more eligible candidate for the job. For example, I have never worked a retail job before. It's not that I have no interest in it because I definitely do. It's just that I've never been hired by a retail store. Is that my fault? Obviously not so why is it that it is being held against me? A lot of retail stores are constantly looking for people to hire but as soon as they see that you have no retail experience they not only not consider you but underestimate your potential. How do they know that I can't be a valuable assett to that store with a little training and encouragement? What happened to the value of customer service, something that you can take along with you no matter where you work? Some people may have a lot of retail experience working at a vast amount of retail stores but they do not have basic customer service! When you do group interviews some people have better answers to certain questions simple because of the events that have taken place within there lives specifically. For example, name a time when a customer was very angry and irrational to you :S. What if you have never encounted such a customer meanwhile the person next to you reveals a time when a customer was so angry that they hurled a chair at them but somehow they were able to calm them down and get them what they needed. Obviously this person's story makes for a more exciting answer to the interviewers question. Honestly, many people tell you to be yourself when it comes to an interview but we all know that it's nothing but a cliche. We are constantly trying to search and think of the best answers to certain questions that will make an employer hire us, not neccessarily on what we truly think or feel. Anyways, all venting aside, I will continue to fish for jobs in the river of employment hoping for at least a nibble and then with a little luck I'll end up with a good catch.
